MCRHL Inter-Regional Kicks off at Hat Trick Hockey in Palatine, IL

Action has been exciting in this, our inter-regional in Palatine, IL.  An exciting D1 match between Michigan State and the UMSL Tritons rounded out the morning of games, with a lot of determination and physical play coming from both teams. The first period saw an even game up until the end, when Michigan State’s captain Colin Cyr took charge of the game and ended the first period with 2 of MSU’s 3 goals in their 3-0 lead over the Tritons. The teams traded 2 goals apiece in the second period, and Colin Cyr ended the third period with one last goal to nab the hat trick to hand the Tritons their first loss of the season; ending the game 6-2 Spartans.

As action continued in Division 1, Miami of Ohio took on visiting Bethel University.  Bethel got out quick with Joey Harmon scoring a goal only thirty seconds in, but Miami would not let that lead last long as they scored three to round out the period, finishing it out 3-1. Kevin Putnam went on to put up five goals in the contest, getting Miami out to a sizeable 7-2 lead halfway through the third period.  Bethel took advantage of a 4-on-2 with three minutes left, and scored two quick goals to close out the powerplay.  They added another with just under a minute left in the contest, but were unable to carry the momentum to the additional two goals they needed to tie the game, and Miami took home the victory.

Our first game to kick off this weekend, Grand Valley State vs DePaul, was a decisive one. Grand Valley came out swinging on the very first puck drop, and less than a minute into the game scored the first goal. Grand Valley took advantage of the momentum and put two more away before DePaul could answer with a goal of their own, making the game 3-1 Grand Valley with around 2 minutes left in the first. Grand Valley refused to let DePaul back into the game, and tallied up one more before the end of the period. The rest of the game was hard fought, but Grand Valley continued to dominate and finished out the game 8-1 over DePaul.

Action continues as we round out the rest of the evening with big games the rest of the way.  Stay tuned for more updates!
