NCRHA Division II Matchup of the Week

Cortland vs. Northeastern

Saturday, February 11 – 11pm

Season Head to Head prior to this weekend: 0-0, teams have not met this season

Season Head to Head prior to this weekend: Cortland leads season series 1-0, with 10-5 win this weekend

Just Cortland’s 2nd event of the season, meaning each event they are being loaded up with games, bringing in a good record after their 1st weekend. This was the first matchup of the season between Cortland and ECRHA’s #1 DII team Northeastern. It was all Northeastern from the start, with the Huskies scoring 6 unanswered goals in the 1st period, plus their 7th goal just 12 seconds into the 2nd period. Cortland notched 2 goals in the 2nd and then the teams traded several goals in the 3rd, with Northeastern coming out on top by a score of 10-5. Northeastern’s Quinn Mulligan led all scorers with 4 goals and 4 assists, followed by Jason Stitt with 2 goals and 4 assists.

 

NCRHA Division III Matchup of the Week

Neumann vs. Oswego

Saturday, February 11 – 11am

Season Head to Head prior to this weekend: Neumann leads season series 1-0, with 7-3 win on Oct. 29

Season Head to Head after this weekend: Neumann leads season series 2-0, with 5-4 overtime win this weekend

The 2nd time these teams have faced off this season and it is Neumann coming out on top again, this time in overtime! This was Neumann’s 3rd game on the weekend, all Saturday morning. Oswego did get going first on the scoreboard, with William Bowling getting 2 goals midway through the 1st. Neumann’s Victor Foley scored with 30 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 1 heading into the 1st intermission. 2 Neumann goals in the 2nd put the Knights up 3-2 heading into the 3rd. Oswego would score 2 in the first 31 seconds of the 3rd period to once again take the lead, a real seesaw battle. Neumann notched a shorty to tie the game with 7:28 remaining. No more goals would be scored in regulation, but it was Neumann’s Victor Foley scoring his 2nd goal of the game, just 30 seconds into the overtime for the 5-4 Neumann win.

 

NCRHA Division AA Matchup of the Week

UMass vs. Northeastern

Sunday, February 12 – 8am

Season Head to Head prior to this weekend: UMass leads season series 3-0

Season Head to Head after this weekend: UMass leads season series 4-0, with 5-4 win this weekend

In their 4th matchup of the season, UMass with the win completes the season sweep. However, it was not without a challenge from Northeastern. The Huskies got on the board first, midway through the 1st. UMass got on the board just 33 seconds later and the teams would trade goals, making it 2-2 heading into the 1st intermission. Northeastern would score the only 2 goals of the 2nd period, 1 shorthanded and 1 on the power play. UMass had to battle from a 4-2 deficit in the 3rd, but did score 3 straight goals in the latter half of the 3rd period for the 5-4 win. UMass’ Will Stone got the game-winner and goaltender Aidan Campbell stopped 34 of 38 shots for the come from behind victory.

 

NCRHA Cross-Conference Matchup of the Week

Maryville (DIII – MCRHL) vs. Colorado State (DIII – SCHL)

Saturday, February 11 – 7pm

Season Head to Head prior to this weekend: 0-0, teams have not met this season

Season Head to Head after this weekend: Maryville leads season series 1-0, with 11-3 win this weekend

Maryville went 3-1 this past weekend, with commanding victories against Illinois State (14-6), Sam Houston State (16-2), and Colorado State (11-3). Their only trouble was with MCRHL’s #1 DIII team Missouri S&T, in which S&T won that game by a score of 10-2.

Colorado State went 1-2-1 on the weekend, with their lone win against SIU-Edwardsville, by a score of 12-4. Colorado State also had an overtime loss to Illinois State, by a score of 9-8.

In the Maryville/Colorado State matchup, it was Maryville’s Danny Walters leading all scorers with 6 goals on the game. Teammate John Klein had 2 goals and 3 assists. Maryville scored the only 2 goals in the first 10 minutes of play, when Colorado State got on the board. Maryville would finish off the 1st period strong with 2 goals in the last 15 seconds, taking a 4-1 lead into the 2nd. Maryville would go on to score 4 straight goals in the 2nd, never looking back and cruising to an 11-3 win.
