15 teams descended on The Rinks - Irvine Inline in sunny Irvine, CA for a great day of collegiate roller hockey. This first-time mandatory all-teams pre-season event had each team participate in 3-4 games, 2 periods in length, to see where the teams stand heading into the season.
Arizona State, CSU Fullerton, Cal Poly SLO, Northern Arizona and Chico State make up the Division 1 and 2 teams that participated, and they engaged in some great battles, notably NAU narrowly defeating Cal Poly SLO 7-6 and the 6-6 tie between Arizona State and Cal Poly SLO. Cal Poly Pomona, San Jose State, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and University of Arizona made up the participating Division 3 teams. Cal Poly Pomona and University of Arizona looked especially strong in their in-division games and also made valiant efforts playing up a level. In Division 4, Arizona State looks strong, where they left off in March 2020, while many of the other Division 4 schools played mixed rosters with a few players from their Division 2 or 3 team filling in for the pre-season event.
The ECRHA and GPCIHL also held pre-season events last weekend, with a full slate of games played on 2 rinks in Pennsylvania and a handful of games Saturday night in Missouri.
Teams are gearing up for the WCRHL Kickoff Event, to be held October 23-24, 2021 at The Rinks - Irvine Inline, with all teams participating. This marks the first time in many years that the WCRHL has not kicked off the season in San Jose, but not to worry, the WCRHL will return to Silver Creek Sportsplex in San Jose on November 6-7 for the 2nd regular season event of the 2021-2022 season.
Collegiate Roller Hockey is Back! See you at the rinks!
