NCRHA Winterfest Relaunch

The National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association is pleased to announce the relaunch of the NCRHA Winterfest Event in 2024! The relaunch will take place January 5-7, 2024 in Naples, Florida, at the Veterans Park inline hockey rink. Winterfest is designed to be held in a warm weather location in the dead of winter, right before the traditional start of most college and university’s second semester. The last Winterfest held was in January 2009 at the Southernmost Hockey Club in Key West, Florida, after several consecutive years at that location.

This additional event is open to all teams in all divisions and is the only outdoor event that the NCRHA sanctions. The inline hockey rink at Veterans Park in Naples is an outdoor covered facility that serves as the home of the Naples Roller Hockey League. The NRHL is a non-profit organization for players 5-16 whose purpose is to foster the development of skills and character in its players. The NCRHA plans to use the opportunity to showcase collegiate level roller hockey to youth players in the SW Florida area, potentially hosting youth games in the middle of the collegiate schedule, and running a Mission Hockey College event, where NCRHA players and coaches run youth players through drills as an introduction to roller hockey at the collegiate level.

The facility features a steel roof and is equipped with industrial-grade ceiling fans, halogen lighting, a high quality sports-tile playing surface, bleacher seating, electronic scoreboard, and an NRHL operated concessions stand. Stay tuned to NCRHA.org and NCRHA social media for registration information for the 2024 NCRHA Winterfest in Naples, Florida.

NCRHA Coaches Poll Launch

An additional announcement from the NCRHA league offices is the launch of the official NCRHA Coaches Poll, ranking teams across the country in all divisions. The purpose of the poll is to provide national rankings in each division, compiled from the votes submitted by a committee of committed coaches and team representatives. Committee members are those who have committed to dedicate and familiarize themselves with all NCRHA teams. The NCRHA Coaches Poll Committee Chair for the 2022-23 season is Rick Fenwick, Head Coach of Henry Ford College.

The voting and ranking system has no weight in terms of the selection process for the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships. It is designed to be a fun method for teams, coaches, and players to see how their team stacks up against other teams around the country. The voting process is purposely not using a scientific method or algorithm to determine the rankings. It is strictly based on the opinions of the committee members casting their votes.

It should be noted that there have been and continue to be other polls or rankings in the collegiate roller hockey world, and while they may not be officially sponsored by the NCRHA, they are considered a welcome addition to the conversation. There have been discussions on the creation of a Pairwise or RPI type ranking system for collegiate roller hockey similar to what the NCAA does for collegiate ice hockey. The NCRHA continues to support the concept and is interested in continuing the exploration with interested parties of the feasibility of establishing such a ranking system for use in future seasons.

The initial 2022-23 NCRHA Coaches Poll Results will be released on Friday, January 13. Additional releases are expected on Fridays January 27, February 10, February 24, and Monday March 6. The March 6 poll release will take place on Selection Monday at 5:00 PM Eastern time, prior to the NCRHA Selection Committee final meeting and release of bids for the 2023 National Collegiate Roller Hockey Championships, to be held in Irvine, California on April 19-24, 2023.
