Massachusetts Shocks Neumann

End Neumann's 68-game Winning Streak

ECRHA  November 6th, 2016 at 9:09AM  November 6th, 2016 3:32PM

After taking down Farmingdale 5-1 on Saturday night, most people around the rink expected Neumann to continue to add to their record 68 game ECRHA winning streak. Someone forgot to tell Massachusetts. Massachusetts used a big second period to end Neumann's streak with a 7-2 victory.

Things started well for Neumann, who behind goals from Shane Fox and Tyler Kraft took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Ryan Dougherty got things tied up just 3:49 into the second period before Massachusetts really took control. With Sean Phelan in the box serving a double-minor, Massachusetts took advantage.

Dougherty and Donald Brood both scored power play goals to give Massachusetts a 4-2 lead.

Late in the second period, with both Shawn Lapp and Ryan Wolsiefer in the penalty box, Jordan Davis stood tall in net to kill off the two man advantage and send Massachusetts into the intermission up 4-2.

In the third period, trying to protect the lead, Massachusetts started defending vigorously, while John Carroll and Kurt Leavitt added late goals for the final margin of 7-2.

Exhausted from a very intense game, Massachusetts celebration was muted as time ran out on the game ending Neumann's record winning streak.

In a classy gesture, Neumann's Tyler Kraft acknowledged the achievement of Massachusetts, tapping gloves with the opposition bench as the final seconds ran off the clock.

Neumann (6-1-0) will look to start a new streak at 1:00pm when they square off against Rhode Island (3-2-1).

Massachusetts (4-2-0) will try to run their modest two game winning streak to three when they play Hofstra (1-9-0) at 11am.
