Massachusetts Takes Down Cortland In Overtime

ECRHA  October 15th, 2016 at 12:32PM  October 15th, 2016 5:45PM

Massachusetts used two goals apiece from Ryan Dougherty and Donald Brodd to get past Cortland 4-3 in overtime in the first game of Division 1 play at Teamworks in Warwick, RI.

Daniel Nelson had a hat trick for the Red Dragons of Cortland, but it wasn't enough to overcome Massachusetts in a rematch of the 2015-2016 Division 2 National Championship.

Ryan Dougherty used a defensive miscue in overtime to fire home a wrist slot from the top of the slot for the win.

In other Division 1 action, Farmingdale handed Rhode Island a 9-6 defeat as eight different Farmingdale players found the back of the net in the victory. Todd Anzalon led Farmingdale with two goals.

In earlier Division 2 play, Endicott College made their ECRHA debut, falling to the Northeastern Huskies by a score of 7-3. Tyler Peabody opened the scoring for the Gulls of Endicott, scoring the first goal in program history.

A tightly contested contest tilted in Northeastern's favor late in the second period after Endicott lost their starting goaltender Matthew Klarnet when he went down with an apparent injury and did not return.
