Glastonbury, CT - Alex Christie made 31 saves and Buffalo overcame a 2-0 first period deficit, scoring the game winning goal with just 15 seconds left in the game.
Rutgers got on the board first. Pete O'Connell's wrist shot from the slots deflected off the defensemans stick and beat a suprised Alex Christie for a 1-0 lead just a few minutes into the period. Just over 2:13 later Chris Notley scored an unassisted tally to extend the Rutgers lead.
The defensive battle continued into the second period when Buffalo finally got on the board. Matt McNeil's wrist shot from above the circle beat Chris Cisek shortside high for the power play goal to cut the lead in half. The defense and goaltending held firm and the game entered the third and final period with Rutgers ahead 2-1.
Buffalo finally punched through to tie things up late in the third period. Trying to make something happen Benjamin Kozar circled behind the net and found an open Greg Brick in the slot. Brick's quick one timer found room just under the cross bar to tie things up.
Exactly one minute later, Brick put Buffalo up 3-2. Eric Gunderson found an open Brick on the far side of the net and Brick slammed home the go-ahead goal.
Rutgers wouldn't go away without a fight and the hard work paid off. A scrum in front of the Buffalo net ended with Chris Notley cleaning up the garbage to tie things at three goals each with just 34 seconds remaining.
A pair of late Rutgers penalties put Buffalo on the power play with 15 seconds remaining. On the ensuing faceoff, Buffalo won the draw clean and Eric Gunderson beat Cisek low, just above the pad for the game winning goal.
As a result of the Buffalo victory, Penn State and West Chester will be placed in Pool B, with Penn State getting the two seed and Penn State the three seed.
