Hofstra Heads South to Feasterville

ECRHA  November 5th, 2010 at 5:51PM

Coming off one of their most successful weekends since moving to Division I, the Hofstra Roller Hockey Club looks to continue that success as they take on some of the top teams early on in the 2010-2011 ECRHA season.

The games start early as the B team takes on Buffalo at 8:00 AM. Hofstra shut out Buffalo in the preseason, with Richie Schwartz scoring twice on the powerplay with a Jordan Caruso tally in between to take down the Wings by a 3-0 score. Freshman goaltender James Lauto recorded his first shutout and second career win in the game, stopping 20 Buffalo shots to earn the clean slate. The Pride also killed off 4 Buffalo powerplays and rattled off 33 shots in the game.

The mid afternoon sees back to back action, starting with the DI team at noon. The Pride take on Brockport in a rematch of a physical, penalty filled affair in the preseason. Hofstra ended up losing the game on a questionable penalty call that cost them seceral powerplay goals against, but fought back to pull the game close in the end. Brockport has had some early success so far in their first season in Division I, having lost only their first preseason game of the year to West Point before going 4-0-1 in their next 5 games. Hofstra was able to score 5 on All-Star goaltender Pat Keyes, however, showing plenty of offensive life against a team that plays a very loose run and gun style.

The B team will take on Temple immediately following the DI action, for their first of two games on the day against the Phildelphia locals. The B side is looking for revenge against the Owls, who shut them out in the ECRHA Championships last season. Temple has struggled in the regular season, losing all three of their contests after going 2-1 in the preseason. Temple brings a balanced attack as well as depth, with 8 players scoring multiple goals this season and 16 different players suting up for the red and black.

The DI team faces off against UConn at 5:00, in another early season rematch that the Pride are looking to extract revenge in. The blue and gold committed a few costly mistakes that Huskies scorer Tyler DaSilva was able to capitalize on, sending Hofstra home with it's only loss of the young regular season. This was another pysical affair for the Pride, which should lead to some exciting action during the first two games of the weeknd for them.

The B team concludes their weekend Saturday night with a rematch against Temple, with the puck set to drop at 7:00 PM. These games mark the only time that the Pride will face Temple during the season, unless the two match up again at the ECRHA Championships, concluding 3/6 in Feasterville.

The DI team closes out Saturday night with a late matchup with Buffalo, starting at 10:00 PM. Buffalo has had the Pride's number the past few years, but the team this year features of a ton of new faces that are not of the same makeup as the team that lead Buffalo deep in last year's NCRHA Championships. Defense hasn't been Buffalo's strongest point, giving up over 5 goals a game so far, so expect the Pride to look to take some offensive chances in the game.

On Sunday afternoon, the DI teams wraps up the weekend with a 2:00 PM game against Temple. Hofstra beat Temple 5-1 in the preseason behind a 20 save effort from senior goaltender André Robitaille. The Pride scored three powerplay goals from three different scorers in that game. Devin Gee had one and added an even strength marker late in the second period to build up the lead going into the latter stages of the game.

As always, you can follow all the action online at HofstraHockey.org, on Facebook, and Twitter.

The Pride return home November 20-21 at Skate Safe America in Old Bethpage, when they take on a set of conference rivals as well as the visiting University of Tampa. Be sure to check HofstraHockey.org for game times.
