2010 Division 1 national runners-up

With a lot of hype and more than a few doubters, the ASU D-1 team came into nationals with a lot of expectations. They lived up to those expectations and, to many, surpassed them as well. The Sun Devils went 3-0 in pool play, beating Rhode Island, North Texas, and Florida Atlantic.

In the playoffs, ASU started with an easy win over Rutgers in the Sweet 16, the first playoff win in program history. In the Elite 8, the Sun Devils beat Midwest regional champions Michigan State and the Final 4 they defeated East regional champions Buffalo to become the first WCRHL team to ever reach the national championship game.

There wasn't enough left in the tank for the title game though as the Sun Devils didn't play well until the 2nd period and it was too late. They lost 5-1 to 8 time national champions Lindenwood University, finishing as national runners-up in only their 2nd season in existence.

Notes:

Brian Ganz led the Sun Devils in scoring with 10 goals and 10 assists in 7 games.

The championship game loss was goaltender Clay Taylor's only loss of the season. He had a record of 16-1-0 for the year.

Derek Bolls, Will Heinze, and Brian Ganz each had 2 game winning goals for ASU at nationals.

After the Sun Devils' B team lost in the Elite 8, ASU became the first school in WCRHL history to have both their D1 and B teams make at least the Elite 8 at nationals.
