Old Bethpage, NY - Justin Lundh scored the game winning goal and added two assists to lead Rhode Island past Stony Brook 4-2 on Saturday morning.

In the first meeting of the season between the two sides, it was Rhode Island who got the start they wanted when Chris Luzier found the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead. Carrying a winless record into the game, Stony Brook refused to be intiminated, scoring the tying goal when Steven Zawalich walked out from behind the net and beat Ryan Duffy over the glove to tie the game at 1-1.

Stony Brook took the 2-1 lead just under a minute later when James Ohrnberger took a Tom D'Ancona pass and fired it into the back of the net. Things appeared to be headed into the intermission with Stony brook on top, however, an undisiplined penalty allowed Brett Borbidge to knot the game at 2-2 with 28 seconds remaining in the period with the man advantage.

Rhode Island jumped back on top in the early stages of the second period, taking advantage of a lose puck to the side of the net, Justin Lundh spun around and fired towards the net and it found its way past a sprawled out Erik Topalian. Rhode Island extended the lead to two goals with their second power play tally of the game, working the puck around with some quick passing before Brett Borbidge tallied his second of the game.

In the third period it was all about the defensive game. Rhode Island controlled the play for the majority of the period, limiting Stony Brook to just three shots, all in the final few minutes with a man in the box.

Ryan Duffy made 19 saves in earning the victory and Erik Topalian made 19 saves taking the loss.
