The D1 Sun Devils came out on fire in their 1st game of the year with most of their roster in tact. The season debuts of defensemen Dan Anderson and Stephen Sperry and #1 goaltender Clay Taylor bolstered the already solid ASU roster.

In ASU's opening game, Tyler Koressel led the way with 5 points as the Sun Devils came out flying, outshooting UC Santa Barbara 41-19, and handing UCSB their worst loss in school history 10-0.

The next game was the long-awaited rematch against top-ranked Long Beach State. The Sun Devils would outshoot the 49ers 39-27 and, led by Brian Ganz's 3 goals, knock off Long Beach 6-3.

In their 3rd game of the weekend, ASU had no trouble with Cal Poly SLO, dispatching them 9-4 led by hat tricks from Tyler Koressel and Stephen Sperry. The Sun Devils finished the night off with a 6-3 win over Saddleback, the 1st loss of the season for the top-ranked junior college team in the nation.

The next morning, ASU capped off the weekend with a win in their 5th and final game, 6-2 over UNLV. This win puts them in sole possession of 1st place in the WCRHL with a record of 7-1-0.

D2 team
ASU started off the tournament with a hard fought early morning battle with Saddelback, the team that ASU beat in overtime of an exciting regional semifinal last year.

Led by Zach Medlock's 2 goals, the Sun Devils escaped with a 3-2 win and their perfect record still in tact. Next up was a 16-5 drubbing of UC Santa Cruz before a long-awaited rematch against UC Santa Barbara Gold. ASU was the only team to beat UCSB last year, winning a regular season matchup 4-1, but UCSB got the final redemption, besting ASU in the regional final and going to nationals while the Sun Devils stayed at home.

This year would get off on a different note though as ASU, led by the play of Matt Hamilton and David Johnson, would defeat the Gauchos 6-3.

The Devils would finish off the weekend with 2 more easy wins, 6-3 over UC San Diego and 12-2 over UCSB Blue. ASU is now 8-0-0 on the season, sitting alone in 1st place in the WCRHL.
