Division 1:

After a shocking loss in the National Championship last year in Philadelphia, Lindenwood’s Division 1 team looks to rebound and return to the top of the college roller hockey.  They got off to a good start as they were a perfect 3-0 with wins against Mizzou (D1), St. Louis Community College – Meramec (JC), and University of Missouri – St. Louis (D1).  “We looked how I expected considering that we added so many new players; we had flashes of some nice individual efforts, but our team play at times was not up to par,” Coach Ron Beilsten said.

Lindenwood’s toughest game came against the Division 1 National Champions University of Missouri – St. Louis (D1).  It was an evenly matched 1st period as the Lions would get on the board first with an unassisted goal from Michael Inouye.  UMSL would tie the game at 1-1 with a power play goal 4 minutes and 56 seconds left in the period.  The score was 1-1 going into the 2nd period.  UMSL would start the 2nd with a goal just 1 minute and 14 seconds in to make it 2-1 in favor of the defending National Champs.  The Lions though would fight back as Travis Bokina got a pass from Jake Hill to tie the game 2-2.  That was short lived though as UMSL would respond 2 minutes and 16 seconds later with a shorthanded goal and UMSL would take the 3-2 lead going into the 3rd and final period.  The Lions came out flying in the 3rd period as Joseph D’Amico got a pass from James Schenewerk to tie the game 3-3.  D’Amico wouldn’t stop there as he got a pass from Elliot Linton to snatch the lead 4-3 just 2 minutes and 11 seconds later.  UMSL would fight back again and tie it up 2 minutes later making it a 4-4 game.  As UMSL was running out of gas Lindenwood added two goals late from Bokina and 2009 All-American Kyle Gouge that gave Lindenwood the victory by the score of 6-4.  “Anytime you play a team like UMSL it seems to pump the guys up,” Coach Beilsten said, “But we try not to put any more pressure on the guys then they already have.”  The Lions outshot the Tritons 33-26.

The Lions top performers this past weekend were forward Michael Inouye (6G, 4A), defensemen Kyle Gouge (7G, 2A), and goaltender Dave Thomas (2-0, 2.50 GAA).

The D1 Lions will return to action November 7th and 8th.

B-Gold:

Lindenwood’s top B team started where they left off last year with 4 wins against Mizzou (B), St. Charles Community College (B), Illinois State (B), and St. Louis Community College – Meramec (B).  “I was really impressed; the guys looked good even though we were short benched all weekend,” Coach Hilke said.  Lindenwood’s Division 1 team called up 5 players from the B-Gold squad to help strengthen their bench for the weekend.

The B-Gold Lions toughest game was against St. Charles Community College (B).  It was a defensive 1st period until the last minute.  Lindenwood would get on the board first; freshman Kallen Grim would feed Nick Hartley to put the Lions up 1-0.  St. Charles would respond just 7 seconds later and tie the game 1-1.  With just 1 second remaining in the 1st period, freshman defensemen Josh Hackman would take a long shot on his side of center and put Gold up 2-1 going into the 2nd period.  St. Charles would again tie the game up just 49 seconds into the period to knot the score at 2-2.  The Lions would respond yet again just 24 seconds later as Grim received a pass from 2009 All-American Rob Medlock to put Gold up 3-2.  Lindenwood would add another goal as defensemen Andy Zilch got a pass from 2009 All-Revision Team Member Patrick Fuist.  The Lions would start the 3rd period with a 4-2 lead.  Gold would strike first with a goal from senior forward David Murphy, who got the pass from Fuist.  Lindenwood now had the 5-2 lead.  St. Charles added a goal around the 8 minute mark to cut the lead to 5-3, but Fuist and Murphy  would hook up again as Murphy sealed the victory into an empty net.  The Lions would go onto win 6-3.  “We knew this was going to be a tough contest,” Hilke said, “We played hard the entire 36 minutes and it paid off.”  The Lions outshot St. Charles 25-11.

The B-Gold top performers this past weekend were forwards Patrick Fuist (6G, 10A), David Murphy (9G, 5A), and defensemen Josh Hackman (7G, 2A),

The B-Gold Lions will return to action November 7th and 8th.

B-Black:

Lindenwood’s B-Black team also went a perfect 4-0 this past weekend with wins against St. Charles Community College (B), Mizzou (B), Illinois (B), and Illinois State (B).

Like the B-Gold team the Black squad’s toughest game was against St. Charles Community College (B).  St. Charles would get on the board first and hold the 1-0 lead until Black got the man advantage and freshman Eric Viehman would get a pass from Brandon Boshears to tie the game 1-1 going into the 2nd period.  Lindenwood would dominate the 2nd period.  Chris Atteberry and Boshears each had unassisted goals to give the Lions the 3-1 lead going into the final period.  St. Charles would come out strong in the 3rd period and score first making it a 3-2 game.  Black would respond 2 minutes and 15 seconds later as Jason Gruss got a pass from Boshears to give Lindenwood the 4-2 lead.  St. Charles would score late in the period, but the Lions would hold on and win 4-3.  St. Charles outshot Lindenwood 22-21.

The B-Black top performers this past weekend were defensemen Chris Atteberry (4G, 2A), Brandon Boshears (3G, 3A), and Eric Viehman (3G, 2A).

The B-Black Lions will return to action November 7th and 8th.
