Brandon "The Franchise" Gasiewicz is wondering how on earth he kicked the puck in front of the net- he is a real character.

UB Wings Finish off Semester with a perfect 8-0 weekend in Feasterville, PA.

The University at Buffalo D1 and B teams traveled to Feasterville, PA November 18-19; each team played 4 games to conclude their regular season for the first semester of the 2007-08 ECRHA regular season.  After much confusion with figuring out ride, finishing exams, etc., after six hours of mixes, Paramore, and a tin or two, the Wings arrived at their glorious lodging on Friday night, chose a buddy, and got cuddly to prepare for the weekend's games.

D1 Report

--The D1 Wings opened against Hofstra, and played their best game to open a weekend of the semester; The Wings high powered offensive duo of "Baby" Joe Malinowski and Tyler Walser got to work right away, accounting for 5 of the Wings' goals.  Wings' newcomer Shaun Golden, as well as veterans Jay Slutsky and Steve Ostrow also got on the scoresheet.  Richie "Settin the Tone" LaTona was as solid as ever in a 14 save performance.

--Next up for the Wings was Rhode Island, who the Wings defeated during pre-season this year; In arguably the most entertaining game of the weekend, the two powerhouses battled it out for the entire 36 minutes, with the Wings prevailing 7-6, thanks to snipey little play from Shaun Golden, who celebrated accordingly after he scored.  Crucial for the Wings were the 2 goals of Jason Francobanderio, who tied the game after putting in a rebound coming from a shot from third year player Adam Hirsch.  "Baby" Joe and Tyler Walser smooth and quick passing down low accounted for 4 of the Wings goals (first career slap shot goal for baby).  "Settin the Tone" dominated the pipes as usual.

--In their third game of the day, the Wings faced off against Western New York rivals RIT; in a game that proved to be very systematic, the Wings relied on their puck possession and speed to shut down RIT and win 4-0.  With a 13 save performance, "Settin the Tone" recorded the first shutout of his collegiate career.  The Wings' scoring was led by their kisstthyyy phillll of a line "Baby"/Walser, who each finished with a goal.  Jay Slutsky found the net for the first time of the weekend, ripping a one-timer off the bar into the top shelf.  Brandon "The Franchise??" Gasiewicz rebounds from a rough start to play a sound defensive game, and rushes the puck solidly up the boards once or twice.

--On Sunday morning, captains Steve Ostrow and Jay Slutsky reminded the team to finish off the semester strong, and the boys did just that: putting away Connecticut by a score of 7-2.  Once again, Baby Joe and Tyler Walser go on offensive festival, each picking up lots of points.  Slutsky, Francobandiero, and Golden find the net as well.

B Report

--The UB B Wings started off their weekend nice and early against Drexel B, which proved to be their most closely contested game of the weekend.  Led by the 4 goals of Ryan Kelly and the game winner of Brian Goldman, the wings prevailed 5-4.  The Klimek Brotthhhhherrrsss pick up a few assists, as does Kevin 'the General" Cook.  Chris Territo is solid in his first outing of the weekend, making key saves to allow the B Wings to stay undefeated on the season.

--The Wings next played Cornell AFF and prevailed 9-2; facing a great Cornell goalie, the Wings relied on their offense prowess, and peppered the goalie with shots.  Eric Werner gets his first start of the weekend, and comes away with a win.  Nick "the Varnisher" Narchus was a happy man after the game.

-- With the D1 crew in the stands, the Wings put on a show when playing Hofstra B, scoring twice in the opening minute.  Highlight reel goals from Timmy Newbold, Jeff Elias, and The Klimek Brottthhherrrrs dazzled the crowd.  Chris Territo again backstopped the Wings to a win.

--Playing in yet again the first game of the day, The Wings faced West Chester B on Sunday morning; and did not let an early start taint their record, the boys instead came away with a 7-3 win.  Staying undefeated, the UB B Wings now have 18 points, good for first place in the ECRHA.

Next Semester:

The UB Wings play with one goal in mind: to win.  During the semester break, look for the Wings to be doing brutal off-ice conditioning- including running and hitting the weight room.  They will become animals.  The teams are dying to get back to work- ready to cement their spots at nationals to take on the best in country.
