Colin Sipperley of Walled Lake and Jason Yokubison of Novi, along with Jon Taveggia of Macomb Township were members of the team that defeated the Czech Republic in the gold medal game last month.
Team USA bested Germany in the semifinals. During pool play, Team USA defeated Australia, tied the Czech Republic and went on to beat Mexico and Germany to advance to the medal round.
All three local members of the team went through tryouts at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., last fall. Remaining team members are from all over the U.S.
The Inline Hockey Junior World Championships are sanctioned by the Federation Internationale de Roller Sports (F.I.R.S) and USA Roller Sports (USARS) which are governed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Both Sipperley and Yokubison also played on the first Oakland Community College (OCC) Inline hockey team, which captured the Midwest Collegiate Roller Hockey League B Division title for the 2006-07 season.
The OCC team defeated Grand Valley State (B), Michigan (B), Michigan State (B) and Michigan (B) again for the championship last March.
After the first season in the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association, OCC will move up to play its second season in the A Division of the NCRHA. This will be more competitive and make OCC eligible to go to the NCRHAUs national championship tournament.
This past year the nationals were held in St. Louis in early April, the same time and place as the NCAA Frozen Four.
