The Cornell NCRHA team went 2-1-0 in three games during the Columbus Day Kickoff Preseason Event in Feasterville, PA.

Cornell started slow with a 5-1 win over Ramapo.  Freshman forward Ryan Musa potted two goals and freshman forward Russel Feathers potted a single strike, while newcomer defenseman Justin Lindemann made his presence known with an assist and a goal.  Rounding out the scoring was veteran senior defenseman Steve Clark with a goal and an assist, junior Michael Spooner with 2 assists, and old man/Ph.D candidate George Lewis with an assist.  Freshman goalie Alex Lebron looked good in his first game, making 14 saves on 15 shots.

Cornell came out impressively strong against Vermont, winning 5-3.  The score did not accurately depict the game, however.  In the first period, a goal from the blue line put Cornell into a 1-0 hole, and disaster struck as the defenseman headmanning the play in the middle of the first fanned on a pass, allowing a breakaway to go up 2-0.  After that, however, the game was pretty much sealed, as Vermont seldom touched the puck after, let alone possessed it.  Lindemann scored at the end of the first on a pretty pass from Lewis to make it 2-1.  In the second, an onslaught of shots resulted in gains for the squad, with Lindemann potting one and getting two assists, Spooner putting in a goals and garnering an assist, veteran senior defenseman Steve Gilson potting a goal, and Lewis finishing the scoring with a goal and an assist.  Vermont potted a goal to come within 2 in the middle of the third on a 2 on 2, but that was it.  Goalie Lebron finished with 15 saves on 18 shots.

Cornell finished out the weekend with a weaker effort against the always-tenacious Maine team, going down 7-5.  The back-and-forth of the first period lead to an early powerplay for Cornell, but it was Maine who struck first, netting a short handed goal to go up 1-0.  Three minutes later, Musa continued his strong weekend with a power play goal from Lewis to make it 1-1.  Maine scored a goal just 20 seconds into a power play on a Ben Wagner interference penalty late in the period to go up 2-1.  In the second period, Maine struck on an early power play, and added two late goals to make it 5-1.  In the 3rd period, Cornell stormed back with goals from returning junior forward Kirk Jensen on a setup from Lindeman and a power play goal from Wagner on a pass from Musa.  Maine quickly made it 6-3 on another quick power play goal and notched another two minutes later; late goals by Clark from Lewis on the power play and Lewis from Kim were not enough to overcome the goal deficit.  Lewis finished with a goal and two assists, Clark finished with a goal, Musa had a goal and an assist, Jensen potted a single strike, and Lindemann and senior defenseman Dennis Kim had an assist.  Goalie Lebron was victimized by an effective Maine powerplay, making 10 saves on 17 shots.

Cornell plays next on October 20 and 21 in Pittsburgh PA against hated rivals SUNY Brockport, newcomers Slippery Rock University, and Shippensburg's one-man-army attack.
