Just one night removed from a thrilling overtime victory over
Missouri-Rolla in the Winterfest Semi-Finals, the Army Black Knights found
themselves locked at 5 heading into overtime with Florida International. With
everyone pulling for the Black Knights, FIU was able to fire the puck into the
back of the net to win the Winterfest Championship, 6-5 in overtime. With their
runner-up performance, the Black Knights put the league on notice; they came to
play in the second half of the season.
Just getting to the title game was impressive for Army, who
lost their opening game 6-2 against Missouri-Rolla. Army should how tough they
were, regrouping for a 10-6 victory over Colorado University. With momentum and
some rest, Army took on FIU for the first time, but at the end they found
themselves just short, losing 8-6.
That first loss to FIU dropped Armyâ??s record to 1-2-0 after
the round robin, well enough for the third seed, and a rematch against
Missouri-Rolla. Tied 5-5 at the end over regulation, the Black Knights pulled
off the upset by scoring and advancing to the final against FIU.
Army returns to action the weekend of January 27th-28th
in Glastonbury, CT.
