After the final exam of the semester and 5 weeks since the season ended we could look back on what proved to be a season that would change the history of the Towson University Roller Hockey Club. For the first time in the history of the Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association, the Division I Championship was won for a third time by the same team, the Towson Tigers. Not only was this the first time the Division I title was won for the third time, but it was won for the third year in a row. After winning their third straight ECRHA Division I title and securing a bid to the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association?s National Championship Tournament in
Morrisville
,
NC
had a month to work for what had eluded the club for the 3 previous years.
After a 5-4 win against Western Michigan, a 12-3 win over Texas Tech, and an 11-0 win overColorado
State
in pool play, the Towson Tigers Division I team would face
University
of
Missouri
at Rolla in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers won this game by a score of 6-1. Next up was the
University
of
Florida Gators
. This game was intense with a loud crowd cheering on both teams. The Gators struck first and lead 1-0 after the first period. The only goal the second period went to the Tigers. The score was tied 1-1 after two periods of play. In the third the Tigers took the 2-1 lead only to have the Gators tied the game less than 3 minutes later. Regulation ended tied at 2. With just under 3 minutes to play in the first overtime, the Tigers scored of an offensive zone face-off. Next on the schedule was the Michigan State Spartans, less then 12 hours later. This game was even early on tied at 2 after one period. After 2 periods the Spartans led 6-3. After the Spartans scored again to make it 7-3 the Tigers rattled off 4 goals in 3 minutes and 15 seconds to tie the game. One goal was scored shorthanded. Unfortunately for the ECRHA Division 1 champs for 3 straight years, one the same power play for
Michigan
State
, the Spartans stuck. The Tigers? season ended one game earlier then the Towson University Tigers would have liked.
The Towson Tigers B Division team made some history of their own. After losing in the ECRHA B Division finals to
Suffolk
for the second year in a row, the team was off to nationals for the second time ever, and second year in a row. After a 10-3 win over
Colorado
State
, the Tigers lost their final two pool play games 11-3 to
Western Michigan
, and 9-6 to Meramec. The Tigers then took on the Gators from the
University
of
Florida
. The Tigers won the game 5-4 in overtime. Next of the schedule was the defending National Champions, the Lindenwood Lions. The Tigers came out strong. However, they could not keep the pressure on and their season ended there by a score of 7-0. In addition to making further they had before, the Towson B Division team was also on top the ECRHA B Division Southern Conference in the regular season.
