Maine Starts Second Semester 2-2

ECRHA  January 30th, 2006 at 6:00AM  January 30th, 2006 8:27PM
Maine started 2006 slightly better then the team that started the season last fall.  Over winter break many players were lost due to academics and transfers, however 4 new faces suited up in Glastonbury, CT this past weekend.  Backup goalie Brian Tomasetti replaced Greg Weglewski who transferred to Robert Morris University and rookie forwards Neil Shelly and James Mansfield along with veteran returnee Chris Warren put on the sweater for the first time this season.  Maine had two big 7 goal victories over Stony Brook (9-2) and Briarcliffe (8-1).  In big games however the youth of the team still showed.  Mistakes and penelties at critical times proved too much to overcome against the better teams and Albany and Brockport took advantage coming away with 6-3 and 5-3 wins.  In both games Maine had a chance to win in the third period but couldn't and had to settle for four points on the weekend.  That did however give them 8 points on the season which is good enough right now for the 12th and final playoff spot with huge weekends left in Feasterville, PA and again in Glastonbury, CT.  For the weekend Warrens impact was felt as usual on more then just the scoresheet, though he did tally 3 goals.  Carey Gustanski was the leading scorer on the weekend notching 8 and Drew Borkovitz was solid in net giving up 12 goals while starting all four games.
