Division 3 Farmingdale Cap Season With ChampionshipECRHA March 5th, 2017 at 5:54PM March 5th, 2017 11:54PM
As Saturday night came upon us, only two teams remained in Division Three. The undefeated juggernaut that was Farmingdale, and a Rowan team who had made a run through the loser’s bracket, and was playing their sixth game of the weekend.
As the puck got dropped, Farmingdale wasted no time to put pressure on the Profs and show them that they would need to play their best hockey to maintain balance. 61 seconds into the game, Michael Santos found the back of the net to put the Rams up 1-0 early. After the goal, Farmingdale would continue the pressure, as Rowan approached the game with a defensive box strategy as opposed to the typical man on man defense many are accustomed to. Farmingdale notched their second goal at 3:01 as Mallon found the net from a Fortcher pass. The Rams would add a third goal 4 minutes later, forcing Rowan to increase the pressure on the Farmingdale players. As a result of increased pressure, Farmingdale began gaining clearer opportunities on the target, as Mallon would score his second of the game, as well as assist a Trevor Rubin score just 38 seconds following.
In the second period, it was Rowan’s Joshua McShane who would bring life to the Rowan bench and crowd with a powerplay goal. However, Farmingdale would keep the pedal to the floor and score a fourth goal less than a minute later, as Frank Guida would score, making it 6-1. Play continued with Rowan doing everything they could, but just not quite being able to keep up with the rapid scoring of Farmingdale.
Rowan would add a second goal by McShane, as well as a goal by Pearlstein in the third, but ultimately, it was Farmingdale who would cruise their way to an ECRHA Division 3 Championship Saturday night by a final score of 7-3.
Rowan, as well as the entire list of D3 teams who visited regionals this year all played extremely well. With the championship victory, Farmingdale punched their ticket to the NCRHA National Championship, while the rest of the field will have to await the choices of the selection committee on Monday.
