WCRHL Kickoff Event Right Around the Corner!

Posted: October 16, 2009 2:25AM; Updated: October 16, 2009 2:43AM The Western Collegiate Roller Hockey League's 2009-2010 Kickoff Event is right around the corner! 32 teams will converge on Rollin' Ice at the Silvercreek Sportsplex in San Jose, CA this Saturday and Sunday.
The WCRHL and its teams will be hosting the NCRHA's signature Mission Hockey College, a free youth clinic, for up to 50 5-15 year old local hockey players. Players and WCRHL staff will offer their instruction to these lucky youth players in an event that shows all of these youth players what could be in the cards for them in 3-13 years. The Mission Hockey College is taking place at 5pm.
The WCRHL also is holding it's annual College Roller Hockey Alumni Game. Game time is 6pm sharp and the event is open to any college roller hockey alumni. Email alumni@wcrhl.com to reserve your space!
Big matchups for this weekend include:
Division I
- UC Santa Barbara vs. UNLV - Saturday at 1pm - These 2 teams met at the WCRHL Regional Championship in March 2009.
- All of the Division I games will be action-packed! Several of the DI teams are also playing against new Junior College teams.
Division II
- DII action kicks off with Chico State vs. Cal Poly Pomona - Cal Poly beat Chico 7-3 in their only matchup last season.
- Regional Champion UC San Diego faces off against Cal (UC Berkeley) on Sunday morning - Cal looks to be much improved this season, so this should be a good matchup.
Junior College Division
- Newcomers Citrus College, Orange Coast College and West Valley JC join National Champion Saddleback College in the JC Division.
- West Valley JC will play all 3 of the Southern CA JC teams at this event.
Division III
- Claremont College returns as the lone Division III school. They will play in 2-3 events this season, playing against B Division teams. They should be very competitive as their top players and goaltender from last year are returning.
B Division
- Chico State and UC Santa Cruz both added B Division teams this season. Chico State B's biggest challenges will be Arizona State B and Cal Poly SLO B Gold, while UC Santa Cruz B will face off against Regional Champion UC Santa Barbara B Gold. |
